Afro Blue Grazz is the brainchild of composer, guitarist, vocalist Pascal Bokar. The music is an innovative fusion of West African rhythms, melodies, and percussion fused with Bluegrass, Jazz, and R&B. An infectious groove fed by the West African balafon (ancestor of the marimba) sabar drum, banjo, and fiddle combined with guitar, drums, bass, and keyboards. This high energy band drives the listeners to uncontrollable dancing and participation. All accompanied by richly harmonized vocals.
Downbeat SJ Jazz Fest Review Excerpt International Talent Meet at San Jose Jazz Summer Fest:
“Not far from the main stage and the club crawl, tucked inside a ballroom at the Fairmont Hotel, Pascal Bokar Afro Blue Grazz Band also wowed the capacity crowd, encouraging dancing from the floor (and got it). The composer/guitarist/educator’s take on the African roots of jazz and Delta blues was unique in its execution. A charismatic guitarist and bandleader, he moved his players through a relentless groove, fed by drums and most surprising and delightfully—fiddle and banjo.”
