Tequila Tasting, Taco Bar, and Music
Arrive early on Friday night to enjoy a taco bar, music, and an amazing tequila tasting presented by Don Pilar. This incredible artisan crafted tequila is so smooth you won’t even think you are drinking tequila. For $10 you get to taste all 3 tequilas (Silver, Reposado, and Anejo). There will also be a very special bottle of Extra Anejo that sells for close to $200 per bottle that you can add to your tasting for an additional $10. The extra anejo sells for $30 to $50 per shot in specialty bars around the bay area. We will have representatives from Don Pilar in the lounge serving this awesome tasting and they are happy to answer any questions you have.
Chulas Fronteras/Del Mero Corazon with Harrod Blank, Maureen Gosling and Chris Strachwitz in person to talk about this newly restored version of this father’s classic documentary about Tex-Mex music.
Chulas Fronteras is a zesty introduction to musica Norteña(Tejano/Conjunto) and the culture that exists along the Texas-Mexican border. The music is a fusion of traditional Mexican harmonies, central European dancehall rhythms and a little something extra. From soulful, lively dance tunes to political work songs, música Norteña has evolved since the turn of the 20th century into a unique Mexican-American hybrid. Blank links the music’s spirit and vitality to the strong family bonds of Tejanos. The plight of migrant workers adds a sobering backbeat to this joyous film.
