Steve Freund

Experience an evening of authentic, deeply rooted electric blues when the Steve Freund Trio takes the stage at the Empress Marquee Club.

Steve Freund is a guitarist, vocalist, bandleader and producer whose remarkable career connects the classic Chicago blues tradition with the modern Bay Area scene.

Raised in Brooklyn, Steve moved to Chicago in 1976 and spent nearly two decades performing and recording alongside many of the musicians who defined American blues. He became a longtime guitarist for legendary pianist Sunnyland Slim and worked extensively with harmonica great James Cotton.

Steve’s respected catalog as a bandleader includes C for Chicago, I’ll Be Your Mule, Lonesome Flight and Come On in This House.

After relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994, he became an essential part of the regional blues community, performing regularly at clubs and festivals while continuing to tour nationally and internationally.

Rolling Stone has praised his masterful, no-nonsense guitar work, while Living Blues has recognized him as a consistently creative guitarist and a commanding, soulful vocalist.

At the Marquee Club, audiences will hear that experience up close in an intimate trio setting. Expect expressive guitar, warm vocals, swinging rhythms, deep grooves and real Chicago blues played with taste, drive and soul.
