Smokehouse
at the Empress Marquee Club
This is the kind of blues night the Marquee Club was built for: four heavy Bay Area players, one intimate room, dinner, drinks, and a groove that does not need dressing up.
Smokehouse brings together Anthony Paule, Willy Jordan, Tony "Macaroni" Lufrano, and Timm Walker for a night of blues, soul, Hammond B-3, guitar, drums, bass, and vocals from musicians who have lived this music.
Anthony Paule is one of the Bay Area's most respected blues and soul guitarists and bandleaders. Known for the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra, he brings clean tone, deep feel, and a classic blues and R&B touch that always serves the song.
Willy Jordan brings fire on vocals and drums. His credits include work with Charlie Musselwhite, Joe Louis Walker, and John Nemeth, and he has the kind of road-tested voice and pocket that can move a room fast.
At the keys is Tony "Macaroni" Lufrano, a Hammond B-3 and piano player with serious history behind him, including Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Robben Ford, Taj Mahal, Elvin Bishop, Eddie Money, James Cotton, and Booker T. Jones.
Holding down the low end is Timm Walker, bassist, vocalist, BeaufunK founder, and one of the Bay Area groove players people call when the music has to feel right. His resume connects him with Anthony Paule, The Zydeco Flames, Lydia Pense and Cold Blood, and decades of blues, funk, R&B, soul, and zydeco stages.
Come early, grab dinner, have a drink, and settle in close. This is not background music. It is a real band in a real room, with four players who know exactly what they are doing.
