A soulful night of blues, groove, and classic R&B in the Marquee Club
The Empress Marquee Club welcomes M’sippi Slide, a San Jose-based band bringing the heart of blues, soul, and classic R&B to downtown Vallejo.
Led by powerhouse vocalist Lijah, M’sippi Slide delivers music that feels real, warm, gritty, and lived-in — inspired by the spirit of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Sam Cooke, Marvin Gaye, Dinah Washington, Nat King Cole, and the great soul and blues traditions.
The band features serious Bay Area talent, including Johnny “Cat” Soubrand on guitar, Ryan Ward on guitar, Keith Milne on bass, and Scotty Griffin on drums. Together, they bring tasteful guitars, deep-pocket rhythm, and soulful vocals that make the room move.
