Featuring never-before-seen footage, concert performances and intimate interviews, Academy Award-winning director Ron Howard examines the life and career of famed opera tenor Luciano Pavarotti. In the opening scene of Pavarotti, the popular tenor travels deep into the Amazon jungle in search of an old opera house where the great Enrico Caruso may have once sung. Because he is Luciano Pavarotti, the door is unlocked for him to belt out a few honeyed notes from the stage. His fabulous voice soars into the vast emptiness of the auditorium.
The film reveals the man behind the music and includes exclusive interviews with his family, as well as showcasing some of his greatest performances. According to director Howard, “Pavarotti’s life was replete with the highs and lows of great drama and, like any compelling character, he was also a man of considerable contradictions. His artistic ambition, propelled by his massive talent, and his deep love for humanity drove his career and the powerful bond with his audiences, but they also fueled his other life as a philanthropist. Pavarotti gives you a glimpse into the life of a simple man who sang like a god.”
The Empress Theatre screening of Pavarotti will be Introduced by Grammy award-winning maestro Thomas Conlin, conductor of “Three Tenors! – The Next Generation” at the Empress on Saturday, February 1.
